Local pest problems in Brisbane
Southside houses vary a lot in age, and the pest problem usually lines up with the age and style of the building. Acacia Ridge was established after World War II to house returning servicemen and their families, and many of those first homes are still there. Go further south and the houses get younger: Calamvale was built out in stages from the early 1990s, and Parkinson was mostly bushland until the mid-1990s.
So a house in Salisbury and one in Parkinson can need quite different treatment plans.
Termites in older timber and brick homes
Older homes have had more time for things to go wrong. Decades of extensions, new decks, garden beds banked up against walls and leaking downpipes all create damp, hidden spots where termites can get in without being seen. Brick doesn't stop them either. The frame behind a brick veneer wall is usually timber, and that's what they're after.
Cockroaches and rats in units and townhouses
Attached homes share walls, roof cavities and plumbing runs. Cockroaches travel between kitchens through gaps around pipes, and rats can move along a shared roof space from one end of a block to the other. Spraying one unit while the neighbours do nothing rarely lasts, so for complexes I prefer to work with the body corporate on the common areas as well.
Homes near creeks and bushland
Much of Runcorn is bordered by Bulimba Creek, and there are reserves and creek corridors through plenty of southside suburbs. Backing onto green space is lovely until rats and spiders start treating your yard as an extension of it.

Termite inspections in Brisbane
A termite inspection in Brisbane with me covers the inside of the house, the subfloor and the roof void where there's safe access, plus the yard, fences, trees and anything timber touching the ground. I'm looking for live termites, old damage, mud leads and the conditions that invite them in, like moisture problems or soil built up over a slab edge.
On top of the visual inspection I use a Termatrac iTracker. It's radar, so it reads termite movement on the far side of plaster, ceiling sheets and roof linings. Nothing gets drilled, cut or prised off to get a reading.
The Australian Standard for termite management, AS 3660, sets a yearly inspection as the minimum and suggests checking more often where the risk is higher. A termite check on a post-war house
A common call is a termite inspection on a post-war house in a suburb like Acacia Ridge or Salisbury, where the owner has noticed a floor that dips or a door that won't latch. Is it termites or just an old house moving? Most of my time goes under the floor on the stumps and bearers, and then the walls get a Termatrac scan.
Cockroaches in a townhouse kitchen
Another typical job is a Calamvale or Sunnybank Hills townhouse where German cockroaches have taken over the kitchen. I bait the cupboard hinges, the space behind the fridge and the gaps where pipes come through the wall.

We were impressed with his services and booked him to do a termite protection barrier. He was on time for both services and we found him to be both friendly and professional.
