General Pest Control With a 12-Month Internal Warranty

General pest control is an internal and external pest treatment of your home for cockroaches, ants, spiders and silverfish. I'm Jon, the owner of Deadset Pest Management, and I do every treatment myself across Logan, Brisbane's southside and the Redlands. The internal treatment comes with a 12-month service warranty, so if covered pests come back inside within that year, you call me and I come back.

I've been doing this for 12 years. I'm fully licensed and insured (QBCC 15076438), and my treatments follow Queensland Government guidelines for homes with kids and pets.

What is included in a general pest treatment

A general pest treatment should hit the places pests live and breed, plus the routes they use to get inside. On a standard visit I:

  • Find and treat activity and nesting areas, using products picked for the pest I'm dealing with
  • Apply an external perimeter treatment around entry points, including garages, sheds, pergolas and bin areas
  • Treat the right spots inside, such as kitchens, cupboards and wall edges where pests hide and travel
  • Place attractant baits where they'll do the most good, so pests carry the product back to the nest
  • Back the internal treatment with a 12-month service warranty

I walk the property with you first, so tell me where you've been seeing things.

Inside the home

Cockroaches shelter in hinge gaps, behind the fridge and under the sink. Silverfish like dark, damp cupboards, linen presses and boxes of old paper. Ants follow wall edges and come up through gaps in tiles.

In kitchens I lean on gel baits rather than broad spraying, so you're not wiping product off benches where you prepare food. If cockroaches are the main problem, my cockroach control page goes into more detail, and there's a practical guide on getting rid of cockroaches in Brisbane.

Outside the home

Most household pests start outside. The external perimeter treatment covers the base of the house, along weep holes, door frames and window frames, and under the eaves where spiders build webs. I also treat the garage, shed, pergola and bin area.

Ant nests in garden beds and along paths get treated at the source. For bigger ant problems, see ant control, where I explain how I track a trail back to the nest.

Pests I treat

A general pest treatment covers the common crawling pests in South East Queensland homes:

  • Cockroaches, including German cockroaches inside and the larger species that wander in from the garden
  • Ants, such as black house ants, coastal brown ants and the small sugar ants that find the pantry
  • Spiders, including redbacks, black house spiders, white-tails and huntsmen
  • Silverfish in wardrobes, bookshelves and roof spaces

Spider control in Brisbane and Logan

Spider control in Brisbane is mostly about the outside of the house. I treat eaves, window frames, garden edges, letterboxes and outdoor furniture, which are the places redbacks and black house spiders like. Webs should be brushed down a few days after the treatment so you can see if new ones appear.

Silverfish control

Silverfish eat starch, paper, glue and some fabrics, and hide in wardrobes, bookshelves, storage boxes and roof voids. Treating those dark spots and cutting humidity in cupboards works better than spraying the middle of a room.

Rats and mice aren't part of a general treatment because they need a different approach. That's covered on my rodent control page.

Safe for kids and pets

People often ask me for pet safe pest control. Any pest control product has to be used properly to be safe, and that part is my job. I follow Queensland Government guidelines and the product labels, and I decide where each product goes with your household in mind.

On the day, I'll ask you to keep children and pets out of treated areas until sprays are dry. Pet bowls, toys and fish tanks need to be covered or moved. Baits go in places small hands and paws can't reach.

Your 12-month internal warranty

My pest control warranty covers the internal treatment for 12 months. If the pests I treated for come back inside during that time, call me and I'll come back to sort it out. I'll go through exactly what the warranty covers when I quote, so there are no surprises later.

I keep the warranty to the inside because that's the part I can control. Outside, rain, gardening and pests from next door all play a part.

How long the treatment lasts

So, how long does pest control last? The internal treatment is warranted for 12 months, and that's a fair guide for how often to book. For general pest control in Brisbane and Logan, one treatment a year suits most homes. Homes near bushland, with lots of garden beds or with a history of cockroaches may need a check sooner.

Outside, sun, heavy rain and garden watering break the external perimeter treatment down over time.

Why pest control is important

A few cockroaches seem harmless, but they breed fast and carry bacteria onto kitchen surfaces. Redbacks can give a nasty bite, too. Treating early is a lot easier than dealing with an infestation later.

We recently had Jon out to do a termite inspection and pest control. The cost was slightly more than we have paid for others but after having him out we think it was well worth it. We were impressed with his services and booked him to do a termite protection barrier. He was on time for both services and we found him to be both friendly and professional. We had a small problem with a pipe after the termite protection but Jon was out within half an hour and sorted the whole issue out for us. Would highly recommend using Deadset and we will be using them again.

Pest control questions

What is pest control?

Pest control is managing insects and animals that cause damage or spread germs in and around your home. A general pest treatment targets common crawling insects like cockroaches, ants, spiders and silverfish, inside and outside.

How long does pest control take?

For an average family home the visit usually takes part of a morning or afternoon, depending on the size of the house, the yard and how bad the activity is. I'll give you a better idea when I quote.

How often should pest control be done?

Once a year suits most homes, and it lines up with the 12-month internal warranty. Properties near bushland, with a lot of garden, or in units with shared walls sometimes need more frequent visits.

Do I need to leave the house during the treatment?

Usually not for the whole visit. You'll need to stay out of the rooms I'm treating until surfaces are dry, and keep kids and pets off treated areas. I'll tell you how long on the day.

Is general pest control safe for my dog or cat?

Yes, when it's done properly. Keep pets away from treated areas until they're dry and move food and water bowls first.

Does the warranty cover the outside of the house?

No, it covers the internal treatment. Weather and gardening affect how long the outside treatment holds up, so I keep the warranty to what I can stand behind.

Will I see more pests after the treatment?

For a few days, possibly. Treated cockroaches often come out of hiding before they die, and it should settle within a week or two.

How much does general pest control cost?

I don't publish prices because every home is different. The size of the house and yard, the pests involved, how established they are and whether it's a house or unit all play a part. My pest control cost guide explains these factors, and I'll give you a fixed quote before I start.
