Pest Control and Termite Inspections in Park Ridge

Park Ridge is just down the Mount Lindesay Highway from my base in Hillcrest, so it's one of the closest areas I service. As owner of Deadset Pest Management, I handle pest control in Park Ridge, Logan Reserve and Greenbank myself, and the usual concerns out here are fire ants, rodents and termites on acreage and new estate homes.

Local pest problems in Park Ridge

This part of Logan is changing quickly. Park Ridge was a farming district for most of its history, with timber-getting, tobacco and later poultry farms. It still has acreage with bushland around it, but its population grew more than fivefold between 1996 and 2021, and neighbouring Logan Reserve has grown quickly too.

When paddocks become streets, the pests that lived in them don't disappear. They move.

Fire ants and earthworks

Fire ants love disturbed, open ground. Bulk earthworks, imported fill, new turf and bare lots waiting for a slab all suit them. Park Ridge falls within the fire ant biosecurity zones, which put limits on moving soil, mulch, turf and similar materials. If you're landscaping a new block, it pays to know that before a load of soil arrives.

Rodents pushed out by clearing

When a block next door is cleared, the rats and mice living in the long grass and old sheds need somewhere new to go. A new house with a warm roof space and a pet food bowl is an easy choice.

Termites on acreage

Acreage properties have plenty of what termites want. Old fence posts, stumps from cleared trees, firewood stacked against the shed and timber retaining walls are all worth checking. On older homes out here, extensions and add-on verandahs can hide entry points that are easy to miss.

Pest control services I offer in Park Ridge

  • Fire ant control for house blocks and acreage. Suspected nests should be reported to the Fire Ant Program (report online here), and I can treat your property as well.
  • Rodent control for homes, sheds and outbuildings. I find the entry points and nests, then put control in place.
  • General pest control for the house and sheds, covering spiders, cockroaches, ants and silverfish. Internal treatments carry a 12-month service warranty from me.
  • Termite treatment where I've found live termites, with a fixed quote and a clear explanation of the options before I start.

Termite inspections in Park Ridge

On a termite inspection in Park Ridge, I check the house itself and the land around it. That means inside, the roof void and subfloor where access is safe, and outside along the slab edge, fences, sheds, carports, garden beds, trees and stumps. On acreage I also look at outbuildings close to the house, because termites in a shed can be the first sign of a colony nearby.

Suspicious walls get a second check with my Termatrac iTracker. The radar senses termites moving inside a wall, ceiling or roof space, so I can confirm activity with the lining left intact.

A new house isn't exempt from AS 3660. The standard still calls for a termite inspection each year at a minimum, and acreage with bush on the boundary can justify more. More on what I look for is on my termite inspections page. To book, phone 0412 205 586.

Suburbs and streets I cover

Park Ridge

Park Ridge Road runs east to west through the suburb, with the Mount Lindesay Highway on the western side and Chambers Flat Road on the eastern side. My pest control in Park Ridge covers the established acreage, the newer estates and everything in between.

Pest control in Logan Reserve

Logan Reserve borders Park Ridge, Waterford and Chambers Flat. It has acreage bushland homes, often on two to ten acres, and new estates going in beside them. That mix of old acreage and fresh earthworks suits both rodents and fire ants.

Pest control in Greenbank

Greenbank is rural residential and includes the forested Greenbank Military Range. There are estates such as Teviot Downs among the acreage. Big blocks, bush on the boundary and lots of timber make termite inspections a sensible habit here.

For other suburbs, see my service areas page.

Typical jobs in Park Ridge

Fire ants after the earthworks

A common call in Park Ridge comes from a new estate, where someone has spotted crumbly mounds in fresh turf a few weeks after bulk earthworks on the next stage. I check the lawn, nature strip and garden edges, treat the nests I find, and make sure the owner has reported them.

Rats in an acreage shed

Another typical job is on the older acreage, where rats have moved into a shed full of stored feed, old timber and machinery. I trace their runs along the walls and rafters and set bait stations where pets and stock can't reach them. Then I check the house roof as well.

Ring me to ask what's common in your estate.

We recently had Jon out to do a termite inspection and pest control. The cost was slightly more than we have paid for others but after having him out we think it was well worth it. We were impressed with his services and booked him to do a termite protection barrier. He was on time for both services and we found him to be both friendly and professional. We had a small problem with a pipe after the termite protection but Jon was out within half an hour and sorted the whole issue out for us. Would highly recommend using Deadset and we will be using them again.

Park Ridge pest control questions

I've found a mound in my new lawn in Park Ridge. Could it be fire ants?

It could be. Fire ant nests often look like a loose, crumbly mound of soil with no obvious entry hole. Don't disturb it. Report it to the Fire Ant Program on 13 22 68 or online, then call me if you'd like your yard treated.

Can I move soil or mulch around my block in Park Ridge?

Possibly not without following the rules. Soil, mulch, turf and similar materials are restricted inside the fire ant biosecurity zones. Check what applies to your address at fireants.org.au before you order or remove a load.

Do new homes in Logan Reserve need a termite inspection?

Yes. Most new homes have termite management put in during the build, but no system can promise termites will never get past it. Regular inspections pick up activity early, and they also check whether landscaping or garden beds have covered over anything they shouldn't.

Why do I have rats now when I never had them before?

If land near you has been cleared recently, rodents that lived there will move to the nearest shelter and food. Sealing gaps, storing feed and pet food properly and setting up control early usually stops it becoming a bigger problem.

Do you treat sheds and outbuildings on Greenbank acreage?

Yes. Sheds, stables and garages are often where rodent and spider problems start on bigger properties, so I include them when you ask.

How much does fire ant treatment in Park Ridge cost?

It depends on how big the area is, how many nests there are, and if you want a general pest or termite service done on the same visit. Once I've seen the size of the job you'll get a fixed price.
