Local pest problems in Logan
Logan doesn't have one type of house. Shailer Park's Kimberley Park estate went in back in 1973, and new estates are still going in today. The pest risks change depending on which you live in.
Older brick homes
The established parts of Logan have plenty of brick and brick veneer homes. Behind the brickwork there's a timber frame, so these homes need regular termite checks the same as any other.
Newer estates
New homes have their own problems. Fresh earthworks disturb ant nests. Logan also sits inside Queensland's fire ant biosecurity zones, so new lawns and turf can turn up fire ant mounds. Buried builders' offcuts can attract termites.

Several suburbs sit right on the river, including Loganholme, Waterford and Logan Village, and Shailer Park backs onto bushland to the north. Homes near water and trees tend to see more rodents and spiders, and more termite pressure from dead wood lying around the yard.

Marsden is mostly housing estates, with Scrubby Creek running along its northern side. Waterford sits on the east bank of the Logan River and has grown quickly since the mid-2000s, so pest control in Waterford is often for newer homes.

Logan Village is low density and semi-rural, with the Waterford to Tamborine Road running through it. Bigger blocks mean more ground for fire ants and more sheds and stored timber for rodents and termites.

I look closely at the weep holes and the edge of the slab, scan the inside of those walls, and show the owner how far the soil and mulch need to come down.

We recently had Jon out to do a termite inspection and pest control. The cost was slightly more than we have paid for others but after having him out we think it was well worth it.
