Pest Control and Termite Inspections in Jimboomba

Pest control in Jimboomba is mostly acreage work, and acreage brings its own pests. Think fire ants in the paddock or lawn, rats and mice in sheds and feed rooms, and termites chewing through old fence posts and stumps long before they reach the house. I'm Jon, the owner of Deadset and the only technician, based up the road in Hillcrest.

Local pest problems in Jimboomba

Jimboomba straddles the Mount Lindesay Highway, with the Logan River running down its western side. Plenty of it is still zoned rural residential: a house, a shed or two, maybe a horse paddock. Newer estates like Jimboomba Woods are filling in around the township too.

That mix matters. On a suburban lot I treat the house and the yard. On five acres the house is only part of the job, because the pests are living in everything around it.

Fire ants in Jimboomba paddocks and lawns

Fire ants in Jimboomba have plenty of room to spread. The whole district sits in the declared biosecurity zones, and open, sunny ground is exactly what they like.

A nest usually looks like a mound of loose, crumbly soil with no obvious entry hole. Don't dig it, flood it or pour something on it. That tends to make the colony move, and you end up with two nests instead of one.

If you keep horses or stock, the biosecurity rules matter more than most people think. Moving hay, manure, soil, mulch and turf inside the zones has to be done in a fire ant safe way.

Rats and mice around sheds, feed and stables

Rodents follow food. Horse feed, chook pellets, grain bins and dog biscuits stored in a shed are an open invitation. Once they're nesting in the shed, the house roof is a short trip away.

I check the feed storage, the gaps they use and the runs along walls and rafters. Baiting near working animals and pets needs thought, and I'll talk you through where baits can and can't go before anything goes down.

Termites in fence posts, stumps and sleepers

Termites eat cellulose, and older acreage has timber everywhere: post and rail fencing, retaining wall sleepers, stumps left after clearing, firewood stacked against the shed. None of that is your house. It is, though, a food source that can keep a colony going a few metres from it.

Termite inspections in Jimboomba

A termite inspection in Jimboomba covers the house first, then the things around it that termites like. I check subfloors, roof voids, wall linings, door frames and wet areas. Outside, I walk the fence line close to the house, look at stumps, sleepers, garden edging and any timber touching the ground.

For the inside of walls I carry a Termatrac iTracker. Its radar senses termites moving behind linings and ceilings, so I don't have to cut or drill.

The Australian Standard for termite management, AS 3660, puts the baseline at one inspection a year and suggests tighter intervals for high risk sites. Rural blocks with timber lying about, bush close by and ground that stays wet after rain are a good example. You get a clear explanation of what I found and what's attracting termites, so you know what to change. Looking at buying a block out here? A standard termite inspection is something I can book in. Pre-purchase timber pest reports are not part of what I offer.

Suburbs and streets I cover

I cover Jimboomba township, the rural residential streets around it and the newer estates. I also do pest control in Logan Village, the semi-rural town between Jimboomba and Yarrabilba where the Logan River runs right through the middle.

I also service Cedar Grove, Cedar Vale, South Maclean and Stockleigh, and I travel down the Mount Lindesay Highway to Beaudesert.

You can see the rest of my areas on the service areas page.

Typical jobs in Jimboomba

Rodents in the feed shed or stable

A common call around Jimboomba is rats or mice getting into horse feed or chook pellets. The fix starts with getting the feed into sealed metal bins, and I check the house roof on the same visit.

Fire ants in a paddock

Another typical job is an acreage owner who has found mounds along a fence line or beside a water trough. I walk the paddock to see how far the nests spread, treat them, and make sure the sighting has gone to the Fire Ant Program.

We recently had Jon out to do a termite inspection and pest control. The cost was slightly more than we have paid for others but after having him out we think it was well worth it. We were impressed with his services and booked him to do a termite protection barrier. He was on time for both services and we found him to be both friendly and professional. We had a small problem with a pipe after the termite protection but Jon was out within half an hour and sorted the whole issue out for us. Would highly recommend using Deadset and we will be using them again.

Jimboomba pest control questions

Can you treat fire ants on a big acreage block?

Yes. Larger blocks take more time to walk and check, so I'll ask about the size of the property and where you've seen mounds. Suspected nests should also be reported, either on 13 22 68 or through the fireants.org.au reporting page.

Do you treat sheds and stables as well as the house?

Yes. Outbuildings are often where the trouble starts on acreage, especially with rodents and spiders. Let me know what buildings are on the property so the quote covers them.

Is the treatment safe around horses, dogs and chooks?

My treatments follow Queensland Government guidelines. I'll tell you which areas to keep animals off and for how long, and I choose bait placement with your animals in mind.

How often should I book a termite inspection in Jimboomba?

At least once a year, which is what AS 3660 recommends. If your block has a lot of timber on the ground or bush close to the house, I might suggest checking more often.

Do you do pest control in Logan Village?

Yes, Logan Village is part of my regular run. The same services apply, from fire ants to termite inspections.

Do you do pest control in Beaudesert?

Yes. Beaudesert is further down the Mount Lindesay Highway from Jimboomba, and it's part of my service area. Ring me with your address and what you've seen, and I'll book you in.

How much does pest control cost on acreage?

The house size, how many outbuildings need doing and the pest itself all affect the price. Once I know those, you get a fixed price in writing before the work starts. You can request a quote online.
