Local pest problems in Redland Bay
The Redlands got its name from the colour of its fertile soil. Redland Bay was a farming and fishing area for a long time, until farming gave way to suburbs around 2000.
That combination of moist bay air, warm weather and bush close to houses gives pests a lot to work with, and it shapes how I approach pest control in the Redlands.
Termites in a humid, bayside climate
Termites need moisture to survive, and homes close to the bay often have more of it around. Damp subfloors, leaking taps, gutters that overflow and garden beds watered against the house all help termites. Backing onto bush adds rotting logs and old tree roots to the mix.
Spiders around bushland and water
Bushy yards, outdoor lights and the insects that come with living near water mean spiders do well in the Redlands.
Rats and mice near the foreshore and bush
Rodents follow food and shelter. Boat sheds, fruit trees, chook pens and compost bins are all common on Redlands properties, and homes near bushland can see rats move into roof spaces when the weather turns cooler or wetter.

Pest control services I offer in Redland Bay
- General pest control for spiders, cockroaches, ants and silverfish, with internal and external perimeter treatments. Internal treatments come with a 12-month service warranty.
- Rodent control that starts with finding entry points into the roof and walls, then sets up control around them.
- Termite treatment where I've confirmed live activity, explained in plain language with a fixed quote.
- Fire ant control for yards where fire ants have been found. The National Fire Ant Eradication Program handles reports and can tell you if your address is inside a biosecurity zone.
- Commercial kitchen, body corporate and rental vacate treatments.
Termite inspections in Redland Bay
A termite inspection in Redland Bay covers the house inside and out. I check the rooms, the roof void and the subfloor where it's safe to get in, then go around the outside looking at the slab edge or stumps, fences, garden beds, decks, trees and anything timber touching the soil. I'll point out moisture problems as I go, because in a humid area they're often the reason termites have found a house.
I carry a Termatrac iTracker on every inspection. Held against a wall, ceiling or roof lining, its radar picks up termites moving on the other side, so a suspect wall can be checked without leaving a hole in it.
Under AS 3660, a yearly termite inspection is the baseline, and higher risk homes warrant more frequent checks. Bayside homes with bush on the boundary fall into that higher-risk group. More on what a termite inspection in Redlands homes involves is on my termite inspections page, or ring 0412 205 586 to arrange a time.
Suburbs and streets I cover
Redland Bay
Redland Bay sits on the southern shore of Moreton Bay. Serpentine Creek Road runs through the centre and becomes Cleveland to Redland Bay Road heading north. I cover the established streets and the newer estates built on the old farmland.
Pest control in Victoria Point
Victoria Point grew strongly through the 1990s and 2000s and is home to several retirement villages. Eprapah Creek and its bushland separate it from Thornlands.
Pest control in Cleveland
Cleveland goes back a long way: it was proclaimed a township in 1850. It has older homes near the original township and the Raby Bay canal estate, which was built from 1983 on former mangroves and mudflats. Older houses and waterfront living both raise the moisture questions I check on every inspection.
Pest control in Capalaba
Capalaba grew in the 1970s after the Leslie Harrison Dam was finished. It has residential streets and light industry surrounded by bushland, including Capalaba Regional Park.
The bay islands aren't on my listed service areas at the moment. If you're on one of the islands, call me and ask. For mainland suburbs not shown here, check the service areas page.
Typical jobs in Redland Bay
Rats in a roof that backs onto bush
A common call in Redland Bay is scratching in the ceiling at night from a home that backs onto bushland or a creek corridor. I go into the roof to find droppings and runs, then work around the outside for the way in. It's often a gap at the roofline or a branch resting on the gutter. Bait stations go where children and pets can't reach them.
Spiders on a bayside home
Another typical job is a house near the water with webs building up under the eaves, around the outdoor lights and over the pergola. The treatment covers the inside plus the eaves, window frames and fence line outside.
Ask me on the phone what turns up in bayside homes like yours and I'll tell you straight.

We recently had Jon out to do a termite inspection and pest control. The cost was slightly more than we have paid for others but after having him out we think it was well worth it. We were impressed with his services and booked him to do a termite protection barrier. He was on time for both services and we found him to be both friendly and professional. We had a small problem with a pipe after the termite protection but Jon was out within half an hour and sorted the whole issue out for us. Would highly recommend using Deadset and we will be using them again.

Redland Bay pest control questions
Do you service the Redlands as well as Redland Bay?
Yes. I cover Redland Bay, Victoria Point, Cleveland, Capalaba and the mainland suburbs around them. If you're not sure about your street, just call and ask.
Are termites worse near the bay?
Termites need moisture, and homes near the water often have more of it around the house. Damp subfloors, poor drainage and bushland nearby all raise the risk. An inspection tells you what's going on at your place specifically.
How do I keep spiders down around a Redlands home?
Trim back plants touching the house, clear webs from eaves regularly, and use yellow or warm outdoor globes, which tend to draw fewer insects. A regular general pest treatment with an external perimeter treatment does most of the heavy lifting.
Can you treat a unit complex in Cleveland or Victoria Point?
Yes. I work with body corporates on both common areas and individual units. Treating a complex together gives much better results than treating one unit while the neighbours are left untreated.
Can you treat a Redlands rental when the tenants move out?
Yes. I do vacate treatments for tenants and property managers. Check your lease for what's required, and the Residential Tenancies Authority at rta.qld.gov.au has general information on renting in Queensland.
What does a termite inspection in Redland Bay cost?
It depends on the size and construction of the house, access to the roof space and under the floor, and what's around the property. You'll get a fixed price before I come out.
