Pest Control and Termite Inspections in Flagstone

If your Flagstone home backs onto bush, a park corridor or a neighbour's acreage, that's usually where your pests are coming from. For a lot of pest control in Flagstone, the back fence is where it starts: spiders moving in from the trees, termites working in fallen timber, and fire ants turning up in new turf. Deadset is my business. I'm Jon, I work from Hillcrest, and nobody else does the work.

Local pest problems in Flagstone

Flagstone sits in Logan's south-west, west of Jimboomba across the Logan River, and takes its name from Flagstone Creek. The original estate went in during the mid-1990s. Since then the area has been made part of the Greater Flagstone priority development area, and Peet's Flagstone community alone is planned for about 11,000 homes.

So a lot of Flagstone homes sit right on a green edge. Over the fence there might be an older rural residential block, a stand of eucalypts or a creek line. It also means the pests that live in that bush are only a few metres from your back door.

Spiders from the bush edge

Huntsman spiders wander in at night, especially when the weather turns. Redbacks set up in fence posts and under outdoor furniture.

I treat the eaves, fence lines, window frames and outdoor living areas. You can't empty the bush of spiders, but you can make your house much less attractive to them.

Termites coming in from fallen timber

Termites live naturally in bushland, nesting in old trees, stumps and logs. A colony feeding on a fallen branch near your back fence doesn't need much of a reason to look further. Their next target can be your timber retaining wall, garden sleepers, a pergola post or the house frame.

Fire ants in new turf and garden beds

Fire ants like open, sunny, disturbed ground, which describes most new Flagstone yards in their first year or two. Look for mounds of loose soil in the lawn, along path edges or in garden beds, especially after rain.

Services I offer in Flagstone

Fire ant treatment in Flagstone

Flagstone falls within the declared fire ant zones, so fire ant treatment in Flagstone has to follow the National Fire Ant Eradication Program's rules. If you see a suspected nest, report it on 13 22 68 or through fireants.org.au.

Don't kick, dig or flood a mound. Disturbing it can make the colony split and move. Moving soil, mulch, turf or potted plants inside the zones also comes with rules you need to follow.

Termite inspections in Flagstone

A termite inspection in Flagstone looks at the house and the boundary it shares with the bush. Inside, I check the roof void, wet areas, door frames and skirting, and scan suspect walls with my Termatrac iTracker, which detects termites moving behind the plaster with no holes drilled. Outside, I look at the slab edge, weep holes, garden beds, timber retaining walls and anything wooden near the back fence.

I also look over the fence line, from your side. Stumps, logs and dead trees close to the boundary tell me how much termite pressure your house is under. Then I go through the results with you, including what you can do about the things you control, like timber on the ground or garden beds built up against the slab.

Once a year is the minimum under AS 3660, with shorter gaps suggested where the risk is high. Backing onto bush counts.

Suburbs and streets I cover

I cover Flagstone, including the older 1990s streets and the newer Peet stages. Rural residential areas to the north, like New Beith and Greenbank, have a lot in common with the bush edge in Flagstone: big blocks and native forest close to the house.

I service Greenbank, New Beith and Silverbark Ridge, and the other nearby areas around Flagstone.

Typical jobs in Flagstone

Huntsman spiders after a new stage clears land

A common call in Flagstone comes when the next estate stage is cleared and huntsman spiders start showing up inside homes on the old bush edge. Clearing pushes them out of their cover, and the nearest houses are the obvious place to go. The job is an inside and outside treatment, with extra attention on the sliding door tracks they squeeze through.

Fire ant mounds in new turf

Another typical job is a mound or two popping up in turf laid only months earlier. I treat the yard once the sighting has been reported to the Fire Ant Program.

Termites in timber over the back fence

Sometimes the call is about termite workings in a fallen log or old stump just over the back fence. I check whether they've reached the garden sleepers or the house.

When you call 0412 205 586, I can tell you what usually turns up in Flagstone homes like yours.

We recently had Jon out to do a termite inspection and pest control. The cost was slightly more than we have paid for others but after having him out we think it was well worth it. We were impressed with his services and booked him to do a termite protection barrier. He was on time for both services and we found him to be both friendly and professional. We had a small problem with a pipe after the termite protection but Jon was out within half an hour and sorted the whole issue out for us. Would highly recommend using Deadset and we will be using them again.

Flagstone pest control questions

Why do I get so many spiders when I back onto bushland?

The bush is where they live, and your house is the nearest shelter with lights that draw insects for them to eat. An outside treatment on eaves, windows and fences reduces how many make it in.

Can termites come from the bush into my house?

Yes. Termites live in trees, stumps and logs, and can tunnel underground to reach timber nearby. That's why I check the back boundary on every termite inspection in Flagstone.

Is it fire ants or normal ants in my new lawn?

Fire ant mounds are usually loose, crumbly soil with no single entry hole, and the ants are small, coppery brown and aggressive. If you're not sure, take a photo from a safe distance and send it to me or report it.

Do you do pest control in Greenbank?

Yes. Greenbank is in my area, along with New Beith and Silverbark Ridge. Its acreage and bush bring similar pests to Flagstone, so the same services apply.

Is pest control safe for my kids and dog?

Yes, when the instructions are followed. Everything I apply is used in line with Queensland Government guidelines, and before I leave you'll know which spots are off limits to the kids and the dog, and for how long.

How much does pest control cost in Flagstone?

It depends on the house size, what's going on near your boundary and which pests you need treated. You'll have a fixed figure before any work starts. The online quote form is the quickest way in.
